I started drumming at high school, played a little bit through college and then stopped while I travelled the world. I took up lessons with Paula Spiro when I arrived in New York in 2000, but then other interests (like playing netball for the US) started to take up all of my free time and the sticks got dropped. I actually spend more time now writing songs and playing guitar but I still have an affinity for the drums.

I received a lovely email from Violet Lim from Heavybag Media in Los Angeles telling me about a Dixon drumming competition. Dixon drums are sold in many mom and pop music stores around the country, as well as the big chains. I've seen some pretty impressive drum solos posted to the Drummergirl website, so I encourage you all to participate in the competition.
Here's how the contest works:

There's a fantastic drummer I recently discovered named Sherrie Maricle. She's the drummer and leader of the Diva Jazz Orchestra. I read a little on her background, and I found her to be pretty inspirational. Have you ever, or would you ever, consider interviewing her for Drummergirl?
i understand fully that i am not a female, though sometimes my friends would beg to differ . . (insert laugh) although i think it is absolutely awesome to have another drum community especially since not many out there focus on the other gender growing within the music industry. i am in hopes that this will blow up in some proportion. it was a great idea!
Hi Diana-Oh man, talk about late replies! I just noticed your response to my email from August about Sherrie Maricle. So sorry I didn't notice sooner! What would interviewing her involve? I'm thinking of giving it a crack. Thanks for your response.-Jessica G.
