I first became interested in the drums after several months of playing the video game, 'Rock Band'. Now that I'm playing the real thing I'll never go back to the video game. I love learning and playing the drums!

I've joined a band! I'm very excited and grateful for this opportunity. Check out The Mydols website at, www.mydols.com. I also have a blog page with the band, check it out at:
Hi Laura! How are things going for you? How is the band doing? I really liked your last video. It's a real sense of accomplishment when you don't need music to learn a song! Our band is still playing out. We're learning some new songs to add to our repertoire, and a couple of them are "acoustic", so I'll be playing hand percussion to these songs. It's a real lesson! Hand drumming is interesting-I've found that more is less, and that if you can put the beats in just the right places, you can really go! My first time doing it at rehearsal was pretty bad-I overplayed, but last practice, it was improved. Take Care!-Jessica G.
Hi Laura-how did the gig go? It sounds like such fun! How was the turnout? Did it feel any different from the other gigs you've played? I hope it was fun, and that you'd be able to post it. Take Care!-Jessica G.
Hi Laura! Sounds like you're going to have a huge turnout to your gig! That's got to feel good! I hope you enjoy it immensely. I hope you can post something soon. Take Care!-Jessica G.
Hi Laura! How's the drumming, and your summer in general, going? I've been taking lessons for the last month or so, and we don't lay a finger on the kit! I just work at the pad, on stick control exercises, learning rudiments, and all the stuff I just can't seem to get on my own. Yesterday's lesson was rather humbling-going from solid strokes to buzz rolls and back. They're two very different strokes that require some control to go between the two, and I've yet to get it! It's good though. My hope-and it is a hope right now because it hasn't happened!-is that this stuff will seep into my drumming. That's the idea anyway. My band recently played an outdoor venue, and it was fun, even though it was blasting hot! What are you working on right now? Do you plan to post any covers or band performances? I look forward to more videos, either way. Take Care!-Jessica G.
Hi Laura-thanks for the help with the video; when I subscribed to YouTube, I was able to upload in seconds, so I know of what you speak! Thank you, also, for your encouragement. I get very frustrated with my playing sometimes, because I feel like I play the same stuff over and over. If I weren't playing in a band right now, I'm not sure where I'd be with my drumming. I feel very blessed to be in a band right now; it's become a big part of my life-how about you? I wish I had your practice ethic, Laura, because you put me to shame! You have such determination, and nothing gets to you. I'm too sensitive. What we do takes a certain amount of courage, I think. YouTube kind of fools us all, in a way. I see these prodigies, and these young kids who claim never to have had lessons, or practice, and they play monsterously. It seems so instant and effortless, and I'll admit, it sometimes discourages me. Becoming a true musician takes dedication and hard work. Even the greats took lessons, and played hours each day! Keep it going, and take care-Jessica G.
Hi Laura-thanks for the kind words on "Mustang Sally". With much effort, I finally uploaded a band video to this site. I have such trouble doing it. Other than YouTube, do you know how to upload an entire song directly onto the site? Even when my video is under the prescribed size, I still can't do it without much editing. Any suggestions?-Jessica G.
Hi Laura-this is a strange question, but did you send Joy Rose of the group "Housewives on Prozac" any pictures of your group. She'd sent me an email thanking me for pictures, and I wondered if you were the one who had sent them. Feel free to go to my page to read the message. She is going by the name Mamapalooza on this site. If you did send her pictures, you two can hook up. Take Care.-Jessica G.
Hi Laura-I'm glad to hear you're working on that cover, and I look forward to seeing it! Today, I'm set to take a drum lesson. I'd like to cover the rudiments, stick control, all the foundational stuff that I've never really learned. I hope it helps me. If nothing else, it will help me organize my lessons more, and give me a specific focus, because sometimes I feel like I'm flailing around. I'd also enjoy seeing more videos from your group, too. I'd like to post one of my group, as soon as we can.-Jessica G.
Hi! All I played in the gam was the drums. I was a Halo freak for years. And after we got Rockband I never played anything else! I am still playing Rockband but I am also watching alot of videos online.
