I'm playing to one of my all-time fav rock tunes using the incredible sounding Ocean Way Drums again.
I make a few mistakes here & there (try to overlook) lol!!
My problem is I don't practice enough, I just play it once or twice & record
I hope ...
Since I was a little girl (although I was playing on books back then) :)
What is your drumming history:
Just play for fun, have played at weddings, jammed with friends.
Describe Your Drum Kit:
I have an acoustic set that is quite old. My parents bought it for me I think in Grade 9 from a kid in the neighborhood.
One of my favorite memories from when I was a kid was when I would play on my acoustic set, while my sister would very loudly do the Hawaii 5-0 theme song by going " da da da da da da " for every note of the song....yes...those are great memories for me!!
I mostly play my Roland TD12 Kit now as I can play with headphones & not disturb my nieighbours. I play it using a midi connection to my computer & use the awesome software (drum samples) by Toontrack (Superior Drummer 2.0). It is just awesome sounding!
I just bought BFD2 drum samples recently as well.
Favorite Drummer(s):
I have many - Stewart Copeland, Buddy Rich, I could go on & on...I love all different styles though & don't try to imitate any of these drummers because we each have our own unique playing style. I like to keep to that.
Favourite Bands/Musicians:
Hmmm...I love so many different styles of music...it's hard to pinpoint. I do love The Police, The Eagles, etc
Hi Kim! I was watching Lisa's new video on YouTube and noticed that you had posted one a couple of months ago that was new to me, so I watched it. Another fantastic job! I loved the groove on your hi hats, and those strong rolls on the snare. It just all sounded good. Hope all is well with you and your drumming. I quit the lessons some time back, so I'll just manage on my own as best I can. I find that the more pressure I put on myself to get it "just so", and practice "just so" for "x" amount of hours just doesn't work for me; it was taking the joy out of something I truly love. I play each day, as much as I can, and just experiment, but I still will do my rudiments and focus on precision and speed. I'm trying to watch my grip, too, and use my wrists more. I'm just not going to be a technical wiz, and that's okay. Again, great job. Take Care.-Jessica G.
LOL KIm! That is the topic I started in Vdrum! I think I kinda figured it out tho, I turned down the snare volume and turned up the master volume a little and it seems to help. I've tried all kinds of things with the velocity and that didn't help much at all.
P.S. I'm Jadetoo on vdrum!
Hey Kim! Have a question for you!!! HEHE I am having a terrible time with hot spots on my snare with superior. I don't have any hot spots with the vex kits or with the module sounds, just superior! Any idea on how to get rid of it??? I'm am getting very frustrated with superior, so much so that I hardly use it, which is a shame for all the money I have spent on it!
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Hi Kim
Tried to send you 2 messages but I think things were malfunctioning and only the first got through. But I'm beat (drummer pun there) so maybe tomorrow.
Take care
HI Kim,
Hope all is well with you. Are you enjoying your summer?
Well I am back from Calgary and back to work...ugh! I did finally get to Mother's Music in Calgary but the sales guy was uninterested I didn't get a chance to play an acoustic set. The guy just sat behind the counter the whole time playing with his ipod and on the phone! They had a beautiful DW set there I wanted to try but I was so pissed at the sales guy I didn't even bother to ask! I am going to Edmonton in Oct. to see Blue Man Group and will go to the Edmonton Rock Shop than. That's where I purchased my TD 9 and the owner there was superb. The guy spent 2 hours with me and even gave me a drum lesson for free!
So I've been fooling around with Superior since I got it and added an expansion kit. I have been having troubles with snare sounds. They all sounded the same, a real annoying pop sound. Turns out it's not superior...or me! LOL The cone in my snare drum is worn out. I am going to order a new cone today...god help me figuring out how to change it! LOL I have also ordered a snare from Dave!!! I am so excited on getting it, but afraid I may like it tooooooooooooo much!!!! LOL Oh I feel a bad case of GAS coming!!!! LOL
I really love your last 2 videos, I have never heard of either song before but they are amazing tunes and you do an awesome job on both of them!. I have both of them on my ipod now!
I am learning a few new country tunes, but I find country the hardest genre to learn, even tho it's my favorite music. I also love the oldies and for some reason have an easier time learning them.(Maybe because I am old and have heard these songs so many times over the years they are stuck in my head! LOL)
I had some friends over this past weekend and actually blew the dust of my guitars and we played for awhile, I didn't realize that I missed playing them. I haven't touched them since I started drumming last Oct.!!! I am thinking of trying to record something of me playing both if I can ever figure out how to slit the video!!! God I feel so technically challenged these days!!!! LMAO
Well gonna scoot for now and get some things done, talk to you soon.
Hi Kim-I have a sort of funny story to tell. I was at the music store the other day, and up on this little riser was a Roland TD7. I immediately recognized it as similar to your's and Lisa's. The salesguy was a young hotshot who could really jam. I listened and loved the sound of it. I got the urge to go up there and play it-not unusual; when I'm within several feet of a drum kit, there's a magnetic pull between the two of us! I was scared, really scared, because people were watching, but the guy gave me the sticks, I climbed up onto the riser, and started to play my typical, mediocre warm-up thing. I loved that kit! It's got so much to use. What I loved were the music samples you could play to. What a great thing to have! I told him I knew people who had the Roland, and asked about the TD12, and he commented that it was much bigger than the 7, that it was a "monster"! I really had fun, and sort of didn't want to come off. I think I surprised the sales people there. I probably look as old as their mothers, so maybe they couldn't conceive of a woman who looked as old as their moms sitting at a kit and actually holding a beat! At one point, the salesguy, who I'll say was a very good salesman, asked if it would be okay if he could turn the speaker out into the main part of the store. He was trying to drum up business-bad pun, I know. Or else, he was hoping I'd be convinced to buy it! Anywaya, I was speechless. I didn't want the entire store to hear! It was fun, and I really can see how much you love your kit, and how special it is. Great, great job on those videos! Take Care.-Jessica G.
