Hi Emily-sorry to bug you again, but I checked out your dad's site, and found it fascinating and very helpful. I now know what 12/8 time really sounds like! Also, thanks for the kind comment on the funky drummer video. It was one of the most challenging things I've learned. I watched Clyde Stubblefield play it, and just felt like I had to try it. Take Care!-Jessica G.
Emily-thanks for the link on your dad-I'll take a look. I also wanted to recommend a couple of good books I'd recently read. One is called "When the Drummers were Women" by Layne Redmond. I haven't finished it yet, but so far, it makes a really good case for the power of drumming and women's connection to it. Another is a novel called "Rhythm"-fifteen years in the eventful life of a female drummer. It reminds me why I play. All the best to you.-Jessica G.
Hi Emily-I really enjoyed "Bully". I started on a toy snare at three, moved on to the kitchen table and books, but I didn't really drum until I was an adult. Did your dad play professionally? I've always wanted to hear the sound of vintage drums. Welcome to the site!-Jessica G.
