Playing the drums is so fun but you have to follow the beat from the snare to the cymbals to the pedals,  I bought my own drumkit seven months ago and since then I have improve alot.  I did have some drumming experience before I got my own drumset.  I taught myself to play the drums and never took a single drumming lesson.  Since then, I created new drumming beats and track songs from my I-Pod.  I have a Pearl Forum 5 pc. drum set with Zildjian and Sabian cymbals.  For the drum pedal, I use DW5000 which is considered the top of the line and was my first choice for the drum pedals.  I do both single kick (when I first started) and more recently I'm doing double kick (which I started two days before my birthday).
The first thing you do when you get your new drumset is to upgrade the drum heads.  I chosed Evans drum heads as my first choice over Remo which is also good.  Then I upgrade the cymbals from a cheap set to Zildjian and Sabian to mix it up.  Upgrading the drumset make it a better quality of sound.

Since then, I have added a LP ridge Rider, a Sabian XS20 China cymbal and a Sabian B8 10 inch splash cymbal in the last six months.

So as a drummer you have to find the best drumset that you like the most which I did.  Practicing the drums can help you become a better drummer.

The drums was the only instrument I wanted to play.  All the other I tried failed. But the drums was what I want.  Best thing about it try to keep the beat going with the snare, hi-hat and right foot on the drum pedal and you'll get better.  Believe me, it worked and also let me create new drumming techniques along the way.

Keep practicing and you become a better drummer along the way.
