Why did you start to play? And why did you start to play drums?

i start because i was unhappy and i needed something to give me power and self-esteem. I chose drums because one my classmate who play drums ask me (he was joking) if i want to bring lessons from him, and i take this thing seriously!! And then drums are considerate not so good for a girl, and i wanted to be different and particular from the other girls

Back in Yr10 or so, I would watched some of my classmates in music class play the drums. It was awesome. Performances at school fairs rocked as well. I finally decided that I wanted to learn. I've always had an ear for the beat and I like the strength and satisfaction you get from playing.. .

I started playing the drums because I had the passion to play the drums and I love playing the drums so much.  I began playing the drums on June 1, 2010 because I caught the drumming bug.  I can play all styles of drumming CHR/Top 40, Rock, Hot AC, Classic Rock and Alternative.

I think both boys and girls can play the drums because of self-esteem.  I wanted to play the drums for one reason.  Because it gives me self control from the cymbals to the drum pedals.

My favorite part of the drums is definitely the drum pedals because with me hitting the drum pedals I can create new beats when I'm drumming and hitting the pedals at the same time.  I do both single kick and double kick and love to play hard.

So when it comes to the drums, it really matters to me because it is the only instrument I ever wanted to play.

I started because of a friend...He play drum like a master and he show me how to play.Until this day I play and it's help me to get stronger for my life in general.Scuse my english lollll
I started playing drums at 13. I just started to be really interested in music, I was thinking about founding a girls band and I liked drums. It seemed cool and I wanted to be different:), I didn´t know any other female drummer (or drummer girl:) ). In my town there is a music school, where I played piano for 3 years, but there wasn´t a drum teacher and my parents didn´t want to buy me a drum kit. So I was asking teachers in music school and one, who was a violin teacher, started to teach me. In the same year I started playing drums in a symphonical orchestra and a year after I got a young female teacher and started my girls band. Maybe 2 or 3 years later I had to work quite hard in a factory to finally buy my own drum kit...
I started playing when I was 11 in school. As a little kid, I always thought the drums were the coolest instruments on the planet. So when I had to opportunity to take lessons in my middle school, I signed up for drums. I picked up on the snare very quickly, and learned to read music very fast. When I was 12, my mom's cousin (who had played in the drums for years in a local band in Buffalo, NY) died in a skiing accident suddenly, and my mom's aunt and uncle offered me his drum set since they wanted it to stay in the family. My parents signed me up for some private lessons for the drums, and once I got the coordination down with playing hi-hat, base, snare etc. all at once, I took off, and pretty much taught myself from then on. I didn't stick to private lessons for long since I felt my instructor was moving too slow for me. Since then, I've memorized music by ear, and I love to improvise and add my own style when I play.

That is something way cool Kaito.  Defending your drumming instructor because he was too slow.  What you did Kaito, was the right thing and took yourself under control.

I'm so proud of it Kaito that doing it from your own can really become a better drummer.  Kaito, I never took a single drum lesson because I taught myself to play the drums.  Not only that, I had prior drumming experience before I got my own kit and that may become a advantage for me.

All it is Kaito, is you behind the drumkit, a pair of drumsticks (5A, 5B or 2B, I use all three) and your sneakers on the drum pedals. (I say sneakers because I hit the drum pedals with my sneakers on sometime Dansko Clogs which I like to do from time to time).  I have never drummed barefoot and never will.

All it is, it playing your music and drumming style that matters.  Very proud of you Kaito. Rock on.

I Started playing drums cos I like hitting things. When I was 12 some guys who were about 20 asked me to play with them cos their normal drummer was injured. Someone wrote a Story about this. You can read the story at the link below. Some day I hope my story gets made ito a film cos it will be awesome.

I first tried the guitar and it didn't work out.  I thought drums were more in my blood since my dad was a drummer.  That was back in high school.  He wouldn't teach me because he said that girls don't have rhythm.  Nice of him, wasn't it?  I ended up teaching myself and beating on household items until I bought my first set.  Then started a band.  That was over twenty years ago.  Recently I just picked it up again and I'm working on getting an all female band together.  I think for me, drums are a natural part of life.  I'm the annoying person tapping my foot or knocking a pen or pencil against a table.  You can hear a beat everywhere.  Like Melissa York once said in an interview.  Even in your car with the blinker on, you can start to make a beat around it, it's just a natural thing if you are meant to be a drummer.  I don't think I'll ever stop playing this time.  I always had hand drums: bongos and an ashiko, but a set is where you can make some crazy magic.

I started to play because I had too much anger for my age and rather me going into prison for killing someone I chose the drums.  I had some hard times dealing with an illness so I had to drop from playing, than picked it up again, than I got pregnant with my twins at 26 than picked up the drums again a year later since then I've played almost every day. I will go to college in the spring 2012 and plan on playing at ASU. My major will be music/drums so I can't wait. And to continue with my studio projects, giving private lessons and playing with my band.  Peace, love and 2 in the chest!

I started playing the drums when I was 11. My sister was in marching band and I always tagged along to watch the drummers. Finally, I asked my parents if I could be in band, and after they saw me practice as hard as I did, they bought me a drum set for christmas. I've since then studied percussion through high school and college, and now I perform in various ensembles of many genres. It has been my greatest passion for a very long time to know all I can, and learn all I can about percussion and it's many fields. And... girl drummers sorta kick ass. ;)

I too was looking for some sort of self-esteem because at the time I felt like there was nothing else going for me. A friend of mine said she was in a band, but her current drummer was rubbish. I lied to her saying I could play the drums a little. She soon found out I could not play but instead of hating me she encouraged me to start lessons. So I tried it and after 18 months i'm now keen to keep on learning new skills in drumming and I LOVE IT.
